Her debut single “Brilliant Dream” was launched back in July 2006. 2 singles later, “Sorairo Days”, her 3rd single and opening theme to Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, became a smash hit in Japan in 2007, and she participated in the Red and White (Kohaku) Singing Contest, NHK’s year-end music show at the same year. Shoko has continuously released hit singles such as “Snow Tears”, “Tsuzuku Sekai “and “Namida no Tane, Egao no Hana”, and, since “Sorairo Days”, 7 of her singles have made into Oricon Top 10 weekly charts.
She is multitalented and her activities are endless, ranging from being an idol, voice actress, comic artist to blogger. From August 23 to 27, Shoko traveled to a depth of 5200m on the “Shinkai 6500”, a deep submergence research vehicle, and became the first talent who made such a descent.

Shokotan’s Blog began in November 2004, and in June 2009, the number of updates per day reached as high as 231. The average number of hits per day is about 1,800,000 and with the highest number being 4,500,000 on December 31, 2007. The accumulated total number went over 500 million on February 14, 2007 and reached 1 billion on February 11, 2008. With her phenomenal popularity, Shoko came to be known as the “New Blogger Queen”.
Shoko has been actively performing outside of Japan as well: she attended the Animation-Comic-Game Hong Kong in August and conducted her first ‘live’ concert in Asia. Her stunning 5 song set wowed the 10,000-strong crowd. Shoko also attended the Locarno International Film Festival in Switzerland in August as one of the representatives from the latest Pokemon movie. She sang “Kokoro no Antenna” at this prestigious film festival with over 60 years of history, and attracted 10,000 attendees. |
In Japan, she went on her second tour of the country, “Shoko Nakagawa Magical Tour 2009": Welcome to The Shoko Land”, and was a great success, with a total of 3 million attendees. On August 22, she participated in “Animelo Summer Live 2009” at Saitama Super Arena and sang in front of 25,000 people. She will hold a concert at Nippon Budokan, the most prestigious for Japanese artistes, on October 24.
Her new single “Rainbow Forecast” was chosen for a theme song for Japanese version of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, a Sony Pictures’ 3D film, which will be released in September.
